President Duterte supports the upcoming school year 2020-2021

Department of Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis-Briones clarifies the learning modalities and alternative approaches as a proposal last Thursday, May 28, 2020, in which President Rodrigo Duterte later agrees upon and announces support.

“I agree with you with this program, I support you.” President Duterte concludes the proposal as an assurance of approval and guidance throughout the progress of the program. “Require any help from any of the departments, feel free to communicate to them, [like] question of funding, I sought to speak.”

Given that Briones mentioned the same stand of refraining face to face classes and sessions until the formulation of an effective vaccine, the DepEd secretary firmly mouths that learning opportunities can still be offered to students through what is described as blended learning and distant learning.

Consistent with the president’s preference for avoiding physical interaction in school, Briones elaborately discussed the mediums on making the distance education possible: printed material and modules, online platforms, radio-based instructions, and television broadcast which can be made possible by coordinating closely to baranggays, local government units, and parents.

Moreover, Briones elucidates the preparation that the Department of Education is conducting to utilize and develop the mentioned existing learning modalities to make alternative learning be realistically effective in every situation and area in the country.
