DepEd: Over 300,000 teachers trained for ‘blended’ learning

The Department of Education (DepEd) said Tuesday it has trained more than 300,000 teachers, both from private and public schools, on technology-based instruction in preparation for the shift to ‘blended’ learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A total of 337,486 public school teachers have been trained so far under the DepEd’s Educational Technology Unit,  Education Undersecretary Alain del Pascua said.  Some 10, 521 teachers from private schools were also trained by DepEd, he added.

The figures represent only those teachers with certificates but there are more who viewed the webinars online. The teachers were taught on interactive quizzes, e-book development, and use of various techonology-based education apps for the new normal.

Webinars on ‘blended’ learning will continue until July before the start of the Aug. 24 opening of classes, Del Pascua said.

Education Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malaluan meanwhile said the DepEd was reviewing its budget allocations over the appeal of teachers for a monthly P1,000 internet allowance.

“Tinitingnan mabuti ‘yan ng DepEd dun sa kaniyang pagre-review ng allocation ng budget,” Malaluan said in a virtual press briefing.

The DepEd is also looking at ways to fund more training for teachers, he added.
