Davao de Oro allots P7 million for blended learning

The Local Schools Board of Davao de Oro has set a P7-million budget to fund the transition to blended learning for the upcoming school year as the coronavirus pandemic continues to upend the education system.

Davao de Oro Gov. Jayvee Tyron Uy said the move is in adherence to President Rodrigo Duterte’s previous pronouncement that face-to-face or traditional classes would remain prohibited until a vaccine against COVID-19 is made available.

“The aforementioned amount will be used to buy essential tools for public schools such as external drives, Wi-Fi modems, video cameras, transistor radios, learning materials and workbooks for school levels kindergarten to senior high school,” Uy said.

The Department of Education (DepEd) earlier said that the blended learning scheme will make use of printed modules, online instructions, and radio and television as education modes of delivery.

“This year’s opening of classes fall under extraordinary times, and that helping our schools brave through this crisis is of utmost importance. We are all duty-bound to support our students. As they always say, it takes a village to educate a child. Let us be that village,” Uy said.

The Davao de Oro governor earlier signed a deal with the Department of Information and Communication Technology and the United Nations Development Program to install free Wi-Fi stations in the province’s schools.
