The Department of Education (DepEd) says it is fully ready for the official opening of the 2020 to 2021 school year on October 5, Monday. A program will be shared via live stream on DepEd’s Facebook page during the day.
The day will start with a nationwide flag-raising ceremony, led by DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones. Briones will give an introductory speech to formally open the first day of classes. Various panels in relation to DepEd’s Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan or BE-LCP will take place throughout the day to provide information and reminders to DepEd officials, teachers, and students.
DepEd’s officials will be physically present, visiting different field offices and schools to provide live updates on the first day of classes nationwide. Undersecretary for Administration and DepEd Task Force COVID-19 Chairman Alain del Pascua, together with Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service Director Ronilda Co, will also be holding talks about health protocols to be implemented. Undersecretaries Nepomuceno Malaluan and Annalyn Sevilla, together with Briones, will discuss the education bureau’s priorities and concerns.
In celebration of National Teachers’ Month and World Teachers’ Day, local teachers will also be given recognition.
