2020 has been a challenging year for many Filipinos both in the Philippines and abroad. A great number lost their sources of income, were apart from their families for a prolonged period of time, or worse, caught the dreaded coronavirus or COVID-19.
The global health crisis proved to be a game-changer for the lives of Andy and Michele Rivera, a Filipino-American couple based in Chicago, Illinois. The two used to be in the field of medicine, with Andy being a doctor and Michele a pharmacist.
When Andy and Michele had a daughter with special needs, they decided to leave their jobs and enter the world of business so they could focus on taking care of her together.
Their initial business was in photography for 12 years, with Mish Media Photography, however, when the pandemic struck, sustaining it became challenging. This led Michele to develop “my e three”, which sells various products such as accessories, pillows, wristbands, blankets, hoodies, face masks, and gaiters. “E three” stands for “Empower, Enlighten, and Encourage”. Face masks and gaiters became their bestselling products, and for every mask sold, a mask will be given to a non-profit organization in the U.S. or a Filipino charity.
My e three was able to donate 1,000 masks in the Philippines with its sales. Because of their contribution, Andy and Michele, along with five other Filipino couples, were recognized by the White House during the Filipino American History Month in October.
