Cayetano Urges Selection of “Perfect Replacement” for DepEd Leadership Amid Transition

  • by

MANILA, Philippines — Senator Alan Peter Cayetano emphasized the urgent need to select an ideal successor as the next Secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) to address the pressing issues in the education sector.

Cayetano expressed his hopes that the leadership transition would not disrupt preparations for the upcoming school year, ensuring continuity for students and educators.

“We have to pick the perfect replacement and we have to spend more money and wisely in the DepEd,” Cayetano said on Friday.

“I hope any politics that is happening will not affect the opening of the school year. We have very professional people in the DepEd,” he added, underscoring the importance of a smooth transition.

These remarks come in the wake of Vice President Sara Duterte’s resignation from her roles as Secretary of Education and vice chairperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, effective July 19. The Presidential Communications Office announced the resignation on June 19, noting that Duterte did not provide a reason for her decision but will continue to serve as vice president.

The selection of a new DepEd Secretary is seen as crucial in addressing the sector’s challenges and ensuring the effective implementation of educational reforms.
