A 25-year-old couple riding a motorcycle died after being struck by a police mobile vehicle along Marcos Highway, Barangay Inarawan, Antipolo City, Rizal, on the afternoon of February 18, 2025.
According to Police Captain Alnor Tagara, the Investigation and Operations Chief of the Antipolo Component City Police Station (CCPS), the police mobile lost control while traversing the length of Marcos Highway. It collided with the motorcycle, which was carrying the two victims, and a jeep that was also involved in the accident.
“The rain was heavy, and the road was wet. Our mobile was heading towards Boso-Boso, while the motorcycle and jeep were traveling in the opposite direction towards Cogeo. The patrol vehicle lost control while patrolling and veered into the path of the motorcycle and jeep. After hitting the motorcycle, it was thrown backward into the approaching jeep,” PCapt. Tagara explained.
The front part of the jeep was damaged, but the driver and passengers were unharmed.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) emphasized that the incident was an accident due to the wet road conditions.
“The cause of the accident was the wet road after the rain. The brakes were functional; the mobile just lost control,” said PCapt. Tagara.
The PNP also revealed that the male victim had celebrated his birthday just the day before the tragic incident.
The Barangay Inarawan medical team, which was the first to respond to the accident, reported that the victims suffered severe head injuries.
“They had head injuries, and the man possibly fractured his left leg, while the woman possibly fractured her right arm. Both showed no signs of life, so we took them to the nearest hospital,” said Louie Cornel, a medic from Barangay Inarawan.
The families of the victims declined to make a statement.
The police officer driving the mobile vehicle is now in custody at the Antipolo Component City Police Station. He also refused to provide a statement.
The officer may face charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Multiple Homicides and Damage to Property.
