DepEd to Hire Over 7,000 Administrative Staff to Ease Teachers’ Workload

The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced plans to hire 7,062 administrative support staff for public schools across the country. This initiative aims to alleviate teachers’ non-teaching duties, thereby enhancing the quality of education.

This decision follows a directive from President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., who emphasized the need to streamline teachers’ workloads by eliminating unnecessary clerical tasks. It is also part of the government’s broader strategy to improve learning environments and safeguard educators’ well-being.

The new administrative staff will be employed under a Contract of Service (CoS) arrangement, with funding allocated from the DepEd’s maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE). Compensation will be based on the prevailing regional minimum wage, calculated for 22 working days per month, with an additional 12.5% premium distributed in installments.

The responsibilities of the support staff will include preparing reports, coordinating school programs and activities, and handling various clerical tasks as assigned by school heads.

Current administrative officers will need to meet performance targets outlined in their Terms of Reference and pass evaluations from their respective Schools Division Offices (SDOs) to qualify for contract renewals.

Applicants for the new positions must have at least a Senior High School diploma and demonstrate basic administrative skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with standard office equipment. A selection process, involving credential reviews and interviews, will be conducted by the department.
