DepEd to Utilize Newly-Acquired Site for Dumaguete Elementary Schools by July

DUMAGUETE CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd) city schools division is set to use a newly-acquired site for City Central Elementary School and Calindagan Elementary School by July, in time for the national learning camp. This follows the formal turnover of the former Catherina Cittadini – St. Louis School (CC-SLS) from the city government to DepEd.

Juditha Mapue, chief of the curriculum implementation department of the City Schools Division, announced on Friday that they would hold a meeting next week to conduct an inventory and develop a plan for the site’s usage. “We will have a meeting next week for an inventory and to come up with a development plan on who is going to occupy which area at the new site,” she said.

The national learning camp, scheduled from July 1 to 19, will offer remedial classes for students who have not reached proficiency levels and serve as an enrichment venue for high-achieving students. The camp will be available at all schools, including senior high schools.

For elementary students, the focus will be on reading and numeracy for Grades 1 to 3. For Grades 7 to 10, the focus will be on English, Science, and Math. Participation is voluntary for learners with parental consent, and for teachers, who will receive a PHP250-a-day meal allowance and 15 days of service credits.

The turnover ceremony was led by Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo, who handed a symbolic key to Salustiano Jimenez, director of DepEd 7 (Central Visayas), and other DepEd officials.

Mapue emphasized that the two elementary schools will remain separate entities and will only be co-located at the new site in Barangay Calindagan. The 1.8-hectare Cittadini property boasts over a dozen buildings with standard-sized classrooms, a gymnasium, laboratories, cafeterias, a chapel, a road network with ample parking space, a playground, a grotto, and other structures.
