The Department of Education confirmed (Monday, Feb. 10, 2020) that the opening of the next school year 2020 – 2021 in public schools is on June 1.
DepEd Usec and Spokesperson Annalyn Sevilla said that the proposed start of classes in kinder, elementary, junior high school (JHS) and senior high school (SHS) is June 1, Monday.

However, Sevilla clarified that the official school calendar for 2020 – 2021 which contains the approved schedule of school opening has not yet been released.
The Republic Act No. 7977 or “An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred (200) days to not more than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Class Days,” the “school year shall start on the first Monday of June but not later than the last day of August.”
