Senior Citizen Found Floating in Irrigation Water in Bulacan

A senior citizen’s body was found floating in irrigation water in Barangay Calasag, San Ildefonso, Bulacan, on the afternoon of February 16, 2025.According to the investigation by the San Ildefonso Municipal Police Station, the 64-year-old man had been drinking with a friend aboard his tricycle in the area on Saturday. He reportedly drank too much and ended up staying out late.

A witness reported that the victim had fallen asleep in his tricycle, and when he woke up, he may have gone to relieve himself. Police suggest that in his disoriented state, possibly due to intoxication and his age, he stepped too far and fell into the irrigation canal. “He likely tried to recover himself, but due to his condition, he couldn’t manage to do so,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Librado Manarang Jr., Chief of Police for San Ildefonso.

A resident found the body floating on Sunday afternoon and immediately alerted the authorities. The police reported no signs of foul play, and the family chose not to request an autopsy. “There were no signs of struggle,” said PLtCol. Manarang. The victim’s drinking companion shared that the 64-year-old often invited him for drinks. “As a friend, I couldn’t say no. No one would want something like this to happen. I was shocked when I heard the news. He was a kind friend, always bringing me vegetables. He was well-known for enjoying his drinking sessions,” said the friend.

The victim’s family has appealed to the public to report any information that could assist with the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, the police reminded motorists not to overindulge in alcohol. “There’s no need to drink excessively. If it’s a special occasion, just drink moderately. Always remember that when you leave your home, there are loved ones waiting for you,” said PLtCol. Manarang.

The victim’s remains are now being laid in his home in San Ildefonso, Bulacan.
