Classes in all levels and government work in Metro Manila and 34 other provinces were suspended for Friday, July 25, due to the threat of Typhoon Emong (international name: Co-may), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) announced on Thursday.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), Emong intensified into a typhoon on Thursday morning, carrying maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 150 kph as of 2 p.m.
In a public advisory, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the suspension of classes covers all levels, including learners under the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda). Government offices in affected areas were likewise directed to halt work for safety reasons.
The suspension applies to the following areas:
- Ilocos Region: Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan
- Cordillera Administrative Region: Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province
- Cagayan Valley: Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino
