Comelec targets students in voters’ education, registration fair.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is focusing on students, particularly in government colleges or universities, through its series of voters’ education and registration fairs, an official stated.

Jason Orbita, the Comelec-Negros Oriental communications focal person and concurrent election officer of Valencia town, mentioned that the voters’ education event will take place on Wednesday at the Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) in Dumaguete City.

A similar event occurred on Monday at the Siquijor State College in Siquijor province, with Comelec chairman George Erwin Garcia present.

Garcia is expected to address the students during the NORSU event.

Orbita emphasized that the voters’ education and registration fair is happening nationwide, featuring speakers from the education and information department who will discuss voters’ rights and responsibilities.

Since many students are first-time voters, it’s a necessity to educate them about suffrage rights. Additionally, there will be an on-site registration area for those wishing to register.

Another highlight of the event is Comelec’s “register anywhere” program, which allows students from outside Negros Oriental to register in the area.
