The Department of Education (DepEd) said Monday its “Most Essential Learning Competencies” (MELCs) may now be downloaded for free on the DepEd Commons website.
Education Undersecretary Alain Pascua said teachers can also access the K to 12 MELCs and its corresponding guidelines, which were prepared by the Bureau of Curriculum Development.
“We have made the MELCs available for free download at DepEd Commons to help our teachers focus on what is most essential given the challenge in learning delivery this school year,” DepEd Undersecretary Alain Pascua said.
“We are trying to make everything as accessible as we can, through DepEd Commons and our other available channels. It is upon us to make sure our teachers and learners have everything they need in order to continue learning,” Pascua added.

The MELCs are part of the DepEd’s program to “to develop resilient education systems, especially during emergencies.” It is also expected to enable DepEd to “focus instruction on the most essential and indispensable competencies.”
The DepEd has granted greater access to its online resources as the country prepares to shift to ‘blended’ learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pascua also reiterated DepEd’s warning against those selling workbooks, and learning materials as it reminded the public, particularly teachers, that these can be accessed for free at DepEd Commons.
The agency has also warned against the unauthorized distribution of online learning materials which came from unknown sources or from old or outdated workbooks that are no longer used by the department.
