A Korean student is now the talk at social medias for graduating with a major in Filipino and is also fluent in speaking the said language.
Namely, Kim Jeeyoon, finished her studies at Busan University of Foreign Studies with a degree of Bachelors of Art in Filipino last August 23.
She went viral after a post of Jovy Peregrino, a professor at the University of the Philippines, sending his compliments to the new graduate.
Peregrino captioned, “Pagbati. Kim Jeeyon sa iyong pagtatapos sa Busan University of Foreign Studies major sa Filipino. Ikinararangal kita. Mabuhay ka.”
Many Filipinos took notice to the passion of Kim Jeeyon for the Filipino language and so sharing the post making it go viral. It had a variety of reactions and comments as well.
“This is amazing. A Korean majoring in Filipino….Salamat, Dr. Jovy M Peregrino,” Carole Raymundo Diamante stated.
“Buti pa dayuhan natutuwa pag-aralan ang wika/bansa natin….Pagbati para sa’yo Kim Jeeyoon,” Akira Aihara said.
The hearts of the Filipinos were touched by Kim Jeeyon because for a foreign to love the Filipino language and also excel in it is just heart-touching. Jeeyon also awakened the patriotism of some Filipinos.
Jerick Gonzales said “Pagbati sa iyo! Kung sa ibang bansa, nagpapakadalubhasa sila sa Filipino, bakit sa bansang Pilipinas mismo hindi marunong magpahalaga ang ibang tao sa pambansang wika? Wika at Panitikan, pagyamanin, payabungin….Mahalaga ang Wikang Filipino! Wikang nagpakilos at nagbubuklod sa mga mamamayan ng Pilipinas!.”
Many are hoping that we Filipinos would also love our own language just as Kim Jeeyon does.
Jeeyon thanked back her followers with a post on her Facebook account and using Filipino language, she mentioned in her caption, “Nakatanggap po ako ng maraming pagbati sa aking pagtatapos. Kaya masaya po ako ngayon. Ikinararangal ko po.”
