Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) has strongly condemned the cruel abuse of a dog named Tiktok, who was shot five times with makeshift dart arrows in Murcia, Negros Occidental. A photo circulating on social media shows the extent of Tiktok’s injuries.
PAWS executive director Ana Cabrera stated that the organization is prepared to assist in filing charges against those responsible for the animal abuse. They have contacted Bach Project PH, a Bacolod City-based NGO that rescued Tiktok, but the perpetrator remains unidentified.
Cabrera highlighted the vulnerability of stray animals to such cruelty, emphasizing that the Animal Welfare Act protects all animals, regardless of ownership. She assured that charges will be filed once the culprit is identified.
A substantial reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible. Anonymous donors have pledged a significant amount, supplemented by P15,000 from Senator JV Ejercito and P10,000 from Murcia Mayor Gerry Rojas, bringing the total reward to P65,000.
Mayor Rojas described the act as barbaric and offered legal assistance to prosecute the offenders. The incident underscores the ongoing need for stronger animal welfare laws and enforcement in the Philippines.
