Teachers, pupils in Mindanao cry for rescue after 6.6 magnitude earthquake


Cotabato, PH – At least four were reported dead after a magnitude 6.6 quake jolted areas in Mindanao, Philippines. The epicenter was in Tulunan, a town in Cotabato as reported by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. Photos of pupils and teachers crying out for help circulated in social media.

A 15-year-old high school student died as reported by the public information office in the town of Magsaysay. Photos posted on social media also showed a collapsed school building in Tulunan and several injured students.

“Wala namang problema sa mga daan namin, wala namang tumumbang poste dito ng electricity. Medyo kinabahan lang ang mga tao dito kasi pambihirang earthquake ito e. First time na maka-experience kami ng malakas, mas malakas sa nung October 16 e. Ang pakiramdam namin [parang] medyo matagal,” Mayor Eliorde “Bebot” Ogena said.
