9-year-old honor student sells his medals to buy food for family

A 9-year-old boy named Kenneth Pangilinan gained the attention of the online community; after he went viral for selling his prized medals to help feed his family amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

Kenneth is the brilliant grade 4 student who went online to sell his most valuable possessions – a dozen medals from school. Though he had worked hard for them, he shared in a Facebook post that he is selling them to help his family because their father has left them. Poor as they are, the boy figured that he should contribute by selling his things so his mother and older brother could eat.

He posted a video peddling his medals and added a heartbreaking caption that reads,

“Dahil mahirap buhay lockdown wala trabaho si mama. Matagal na kmi tinalikudan ng papa ko kaya para makatulong kay mama benta ko po tangi kong yaman…

His plight touched the netizens’ hearts so much that his post received an overwhelming response. Many netizens responded to his call for help and sent groceries and other supplies to the family’s home in Cubao, Quezon City. They received sacks of rice, boxes of canned goods and other food items, and even cash. A doctor also helped Kenneth and his brother by sending a laptop that they can use for online classes.
